'unthinking technology' is a new media arts project. Meaning 'not-thinking', 'without thought' and 'un-thinking' the project aims to question our understanding and relationship with technology. Technology in a broader sense can be seen as historical - not modern, postmodern, or anything else - but something that is intrinsically part of nature. However, current technology is seen as a separate and descriptive force. This project attempts to develop ways of using technology without categorical description, and the deterministic approach of INPUT = OUTPUT (programming and a defined output). In particular, I will be using technology that has been used specifically for analysis & description (such as the openCV library which is used for facial recognition and motion tracking). The project takes its influence from theories of complexity in nature and dynamic systems, and aims to think of technology differently: acausal, dynamic, undefined, mysterious.
